Burchell's Zebra (Equus burchelli) inhabit areas of open woodland, open scrub and grassland. They are never more than about 10km (6 miles) from water. Zebras live in family groups and mares and foals are protected by the stallions. Mares give birth to a single foal, which are weaned at about 11 months, but may suckle for a time after that. This image was taken in Etosha National Park, Namibia during the winter months.
