The Blue Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) is also known as the Brindled Gnu and occurs in the central, northern and north-eastern parts of Southern Africa. Adult males have a shoulder height of about 1.5m (5ft) and a mass of about 250Kg (551lb) whereas the females are smaller. The Blue Wildebeest is gregarious and often found in large herds, but it is not unusual to find solitary animals.
