The Bat-Eared Fox (Otocyon megalotis), is found in the drier, western regions of Southern Africa and is particularly associated with open country. They have a mostly insectivorous diet, with insects making up as much as 80% of its food intake, and the rest being rodents, birds and eggs, and occasionally fruit. The broad, round-tipped ears, a characteristic feature, are used to listen for insects, such as termites, underground. They then use their strong front legs and sharp claws to dig away the earth to reach the insects.
