Frosty Morning - River Avon, Chippenham
The River Avon that runs through Chippenham, is the Wiltshire Avon. It rises near Acton Turville in South Gloucestershire and flows into Wiltshire, where it runs through Malmesbury, Chippenham, Lacock and Bradford on Avon. It then flows through Bath and Bristol before flowing into the Severn Estuary at Avonmouth, near Bristol. This river should not be confused with the Warwickshire Avon at Stratford upon Avon, or the Hampshire Avon at Fordingbridge and Christchurch. The reason there are several 'River Avons' is that the name comes from an old Roman word, "abona", which meant "river."
