Lion at the Waterhole
A male lion (Panthera leo) drinking at a waterhole in Etosha National Park, Namibia. The lion is the largest of the African carnivores with the male having a shoulder height of up to 1.25 m (4 feet) and a mass of up to 250 Kg (529 lbs). Lions are essentially nocturnal and rest and sleep during the day, so it is a great thrill to see one drinking during the heat of the day.
